Here we are, only days away from another Federal Election. Who is going to win? Only time will tell. But, rest assured, no federal political party will be running on a platform to deal with the real crime that is going on here in Canada.
Naturally, the Liberal Party is yet again promising to ban more firearms in Canada in the name of public safety, yet again, victimizing the legal firearms owners of our country. From their Party Platform, according to their web site, state: “A Mark Carney-led Liberal government will take responsible action to keep assault-style guns off our streets. While respecting the longstanding traditions of hunting and sport shooting in Canada..”
The Conservative Party is, of course, of a different mind in that they have promised to overturn the Liberal’s gun policies in the hopes of forming a majority government, although they don’t specifically mention it in their policy video. The New Democratic Party’s leader, Mr. Singh, is looking for a new job.
Public safety seems to be on every politician’s mind.
The real issue of public safety is far away from the isles of any gun store here in Canada. In his article in the Toronto Sun of 19 April, 2025 reporter Brad Hunter provides an in depth discussion of what is really going on in this country. I suggest you read the article, entitled: “MOBLAND: How global organized crime came to call Canada home”.
Mr. Hunter’s thesis is that Canada is a perfect breeding ground for organized crime to set up business. Here is what he thinks of our political response to this threat:
“Lax sentencing, little oversight, and a government that has either been a) hopelessly naive; b) stupid; c) cynically playing for ethnic votes; or d) all of the above”.
A safe haven for crime is what the world thinks of Canada now. No risk involved if you are caught or convicted of anything because, you know, it’s Canada! Lack of enforcement funding and political fear of racial accusations in our multicultural society have created a utopia for organized crime.
Law enforcement is way behind in the game of catch-up when it comes to dealing with organized crime. You have to remember that policing in Canada is based on a model of social control, not crime control. The foundation for this approach goes back to Robert Peel in Britain in the 1830’s and remains paramount to this day in Canada.
Police are not versed in investigating complex criminal organizations as they are based on a model of all things to all people, with emphasis on social control. That is why there is such a cry for de-funding the police in our postmodernist society.
Instead of de-funding police our politicians should be putting together a game plan to deal with the real problems of organized crime. Municipal departments don’t have the budgets to deal with it. Provincial police can deal a little more effectively, but are restricted in both budget and manpower. Federal police are so depleted by our woke society that they can’t respond effectively because their mandates and manpower are so restrictive.
According to Mr. Hunter’s article: “To thrive, organized crime must corrupt the institutions, the straight businesses, the politicians and the police. It infests everything…” If true, this is a disturbing to contemplate. But when our politicians are constantly accused of lying to us, perhaps he is right.
Canada doesn’t have the legislative framework that countries like the United States has to deal with organized crime. We don’t have, as the experts call them, the three letter agencies (CIA, FBI, etc.) to specifically focus on organized crime and enforce the laws available to them.
No, Canada doesn’t have the kinds of tools needed to address this threat nor the political will to take on the threat. What we have is virtue signalling and a false narrative about further restricting firearms ownership to enhance public safety and lax immigration laws allowing those with intent to avoid detection coming to Canada. It needs to change.
With the Federal election only days away, we have to think very carefully about which political philosophy on public safety we wish to support before we vote. Unless you are thinking about voting for Tony Soprano. Now perhaps he could have provided real public safety.
Vote early, vote often!
