Well, it’s game time for the Federal Government’s prohibited long gun buy-back program. Prices have been set and the program is up and running down east as a starting point for this great experiment in totalitarian government enforcement.
The Prime Minister even has the balls to suggest that the program is voluntary. Even Trudeau couldn’t come up with such a ridiculous pronouncement as that.
Those placed in authority to seize, if they ever figure out who that is going to be, will be going door to door perhaps, asking what prohibited safe queens you have stored in your basement. The catch here is that no one seems to want the job of going door to door asking this urgent question.
Asking owner’s to take their prohibited weapons to some drop off place, like a Shoppers Drug Mart, would create a nightmare scenario of bureaucratic nonsense.
In a recent column found in Rifle Magazine (March-April) by Terry Wieland (onetime PRPC member), March 22 in an article titled Walnut Hill, Boots on the Ground he makes the following observation:
“Any government with any knowledge of history lives in fear of a populace that can pull rifles out of closets and take to the streets. This is the most obvious purpose of gun control wherever it’s found. Pistols won’t do it, nor will machine guns, but enough rifles, in enough hands, and you’re going to win. It may take a while, but you will”.
You are telling yourself, “no, our government doesn’t fear that, they just want to make public safety a priority”. Don’t kid yourself. The only way to take over a country is to disarm its citizens. Take Germany during the 1930’s, the first step to taking over the country was to disarm its citizens and how did that work out? What happens if you don’t?
Let me give a living modern example; Ukraine. When the Russian army invaded the Ukraine three years ago, the first thing the Ukrainian government did was hand out some eight thousand AK-47’s to its citizens to defend their cities.
Did it work? Well, several years on and the Russians have yet to take over the country as they said they could do in something like a long weekend. Sounds not unlike the US President talking about taking over Canada as the fifty-first state.
Now if you think that what happens below the border doesn’t influence what happens here, think again. Trump is trying to place the military in various cities to route out “the enemy within”. He knows he can’t disarm the populace as they have constitutional protection. Why do this, you say? Hell, that is what authoritarian leaders do if they can’t disarm the people, put your military in their midst to defeat any insurrection first. So why is our Prime Minister taking so many trips to Washington? Is he a Capitals fan?
With that in mind think about why our government wants to, in effect, disarm Canadians. Our government can’t put troops in our cities because we don’t have enough troops to field a CFL team and they would need bus passes to get around town!
So we wait and see what transpires with the Federal Government’s planned assault-style rifle ban and seizure, with or without compensation, notwithstanding that Canada doesn’t have the money to pay for all of this.
Just ask yourself why are they so intent on criminalizing law abiding Canadian gun owners when our government leaders just don’t seem to care about all the illegal stuff coming across the southern border into what may soon become the fifty-first authoritarian state!
